Description

Widely considered to be the best route for climbing the mountain, Lemosho is the still unspoiled and newest route. Due to its height profile, it also offers good conditions for acclimatization. We highly recommend it to our clients. The climb begins at Londorossi Gate (altitude:2360 meters) with an approach far to the West of the mountain.

Once formalities are over you will begin your trekking through Lemosho forest where you can spot black and white colobus monkeys up the trees. After 2-3 hours of trekking you will reach the Big Tree Camp, your first overnight camp on Kilimanjaro. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner).

2

Day 2: Big Tree Camp (2780m) – Shira Camp 1(3500m)

On this day you will cover a lot of ground through a plateau of grassy moorland and heather scattered with volcanic rock formations. You will trek via Shira 1 Camp often with views of Kibo Peak floating on the clouds while our steady climb across the moorland of the Shira plateau will help with acclimatization and enjoyment of great panoramic views. You will arrive at Shira 1 for overnight stay. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner).

3

Day 3: Shira Camp 1(3500m) – Shira Camp 2(3900m)

After breakfast you will leave for Shira 2 where you will have hot lunch and stay overnight. Afterwards you can take a short excursion with your guide for better acclimatization. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner).

4

Day 4: Shira Camp 2(3900m) – Barranco Camp (3960m)

On day 4, you will pass huge boulders on your way to the Lava Tower (4600m) then descend to the foot of Kibo peak down into the Barranco valley to the camp. You will enjoy magnificent view of the glaciers and snowfields of Kibo and reddish shimmering Barranco wall at sunset. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.)

5

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3960m) – Karanga Camp (4035m)

This route is somehow short, you will descend through the Barranco Wall, where there is some light climbing and to some point you must scramble (use your hands to support). The route will take you through small streams and the Karanga River to Karanga Camp for overnight stay. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.)

6

Day 6: Karanga Camp (4035m) – Barafu Camp (4640m)

After breakfast, you set off for Barafu Camp. You will pass across desolate-looking scree slopes barren of any vegetation. It is a tough and steep walk made even more difficult by the high elevation (altitude). After early dinner you will have a rest before starting the ascent to the summit in the middle night. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

7

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4640m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Mweka Camp (3080m)

You will wake up around mid-night, grab quick snacks and then begin the ascent to the Summit. By sunrise you will reach the crater rim of Kibo at Stella Point, from this point it will take you an hour to Summit. After taking summit pictures and congratulating one another, you will go down back to Barafu Camp for a short break then head for Mweka Camp for a decent and much-needed sleep. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner).

8

Day 8: Mweka Camp (3080) – Mweka Gate (1630m) – Transfer to the Hotel

After Breakfast you will walk through the rain forest for about 2-3 hours to the Mweka Gate where you shall find the driver waiting. You will part ways with the rest of the mountain crew. On reaching your Hotel, a self-retreat awaits. Later in the evening you will meet up with your guide and office representative for hearty congratulations on your achievements and summit certificate ceremony. (Breakfast).
